In the past few years, a lot of changes have occurred when it comes to how Medicare covers vaccinations. Let us help you clear that up!
Medicare Part B/D & Vaccines
It’s not uncommon that most people put off vaccinations because Medicare doesn’t always cover them. There is a large range of vaccinations in which some are covered by Part B and some are covered by Part D. Luckily, in 2022 a rule was passed as part of the Inflation Reduction Act to make Medicare Part D vaccinations free.
Vaccinations covered by Medicare Part B (an administrative fee may apply):
- Influenza (flu)
- Pneumococcal (pneumonia)
- Hepatitis B
- COVID-19
Vaccinations covered by Medicare Part D:
- Shingles
- Tetanus
- Diptheria
- Pertusis
How to make sure you’re covered
There are two ways to make sure you are covered with Medicare Part B – you can either present your Medicare card at the pharmacy or schedule an appointment with your PCP directly to have these administered. With Medicare Part D you will want to make sure you’re going to a pharmacy within your plan’s network.
